It made a really great summer dessert! Here are the ingredients:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_o-WLxsE3T3BG322NPJT-V9UVtz6_r-oCLpi22sqW436zh7GuSUjLrqRUf1TtLlFhGRAUQ2txeg4qOTzTTsNo6c42RXHtzv6lHbXXFFWm8Ki2kcCVgQL1og_BUt0zYj8C-Smj4r_Qb70m/s1600/DSCF0676.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_o-WLxsE3T3BG322NPJT-V9UVtz6_r-oCLpi22sqW436zh7GuSUjLrqRUf1TtLlFhGRAUQ2txeg4qOTzTTsNo6c42RXHtzv6lHbXXFFWm8Ki2kcCVgQL1og_BUt0zYj8C-Smj4r_Qb70m/s1600/DSCF0676.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I peeled and sliced some Granny Smith apples and put them in the Crock Pot:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlPYgrEB2l-6YJM_xITwrmmu_kEYjxjqTWKu1Ne7ajArDgHC-IzkoUNCVM_iIIbzZGVuVK9YSKZ0IJD2VambX-Zr4VyV0g_B-Fg5ElHUKrkAY9BisFABIFeMEQ8vJtWmxd1fD9S7Cjh0fX/s1600/DSCF0677.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlPYgrEB2l-6YJM_xITwrmmu_kEYjxjqTWKu1Ne7ajArDgHC-IzkoUNCVM_iIIbzZGVuVK9YSKZ0IJD2VambX-Zr4VyV0g_B-Fg5ElHUKrkAY9BisFABIFeMEQ8vJtWmxd1fD9S7Cjh0fX/s1600/DSCF0677.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I sprinkled 1/2 c. brown sugar, a tsp. cinnamon, and a tbsp. lemon juice over the apples:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvjzVCvJShgh2eUyp_LbIVFYZwBZ5epD1uemOcuWtvIHBl_nUnOb_134xj5Aw_4MvpMWHG8mxa_U6Cf5C4dXvOlzquLIDz9UhsX7vdXliN5vV0h3D3XBOsseG5SlJF-kT-rzUel55wBj13/s1600/DSCF0678.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvjzVCvJShgh2eUyp_LbIVFYZwBZ5epD1uemOcuWtvIHBl_nUnOb_134xj5Aw_4MvpMWHG8mxa_U6Cf5C4dXvOlzquLIDz9UhsX7vdXliN5vV0h3D3XBOsseG5SlJF-kT-rzUel55wBj13/s1600/DSCF0678.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I stirred in 2 tbsp. cut up butter and 2 cups granola. Then I cooked it on high for 2 or 3 hours. I forgot to take pictures of it done, and I didn't take the camera to our friend's house. But she had vanilla ice cream, and it was really good with it. I would make this one again. On a side note, I thought it was interesting how the granola turned into an oatmeal texture. I should have expected that, but I didn't. It was still really good.sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-9267559454390945952014-06-17T19:42:00.000-07:002014-06-17T19:42:00.412-07:00June 17: Chicken in Honey SauceWe made this chicken for dinner tonight. It was pretty easy. I gathered up these ingredients at about 2pm:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQSfcKAAbDcp8UGWV9T50m7w0dzMmXUc2bmSOPtu4SxfHewP5ty6TBVxhjfCs4bd9wx2sV1poj2Lu-HsstcU4l-Nj0taPtR_l4xNPdyDaVvKmtIJn4xl6Znp07M2MwMj1kOzCfmbbyAzxa/s1600/DSCF0679.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQSfcKAAbDcp8UGWV9T50m7w0dzMmXUc2bmSOPtu4SxfHewP5ty6TBVxhjfCs4bd9wx2sV1poj2Lu-HsstcU4l-Nj0taPtR_l4xNPdyDaVvKmtIJn4xl6Znp07M2MwMj1kOzCfmbbyAzxa/s1600/DSCF0679.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I put some chicken breasts in the Crock Pot and seasoned them with salt and pepper:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikvfwHu-x0a1apInPZrGfUGICTqXuF3GU1Y0LJpYiNnKNswzdE8EjteDslF55irdKzRNcRv_pLDIM-Og6hPtLW5Vcyz7LRRfh9zqis5YVh4D-u34M9tgIGxR-jm4Jvm2x-SFfycnbXY87j/s1600/DSCF0680.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikvfwHu-x0a1apInPZrGfUGICTqXuF3GU1Y0LJpYiNnKNswzdE8EjteDslF55irdKzRNcRv_pLDIM-Og6hPtLW5Vcyz7LRRfh9zqis5YVh4D-u34M9tgIGxR-jm4Jvm2x-SFfycnbXY87j/s1600/DSCF0680.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In a bowl, I mixed up some honey, soy sauce, ketchup, vegetable oil, and garlic:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK_OJoGU-76-mocDGOvXT171zyImLOywXirUWUVNpfc9DW1-jdZKWIvJYlwFNRd91wGHMjSR4VJ2Odz7MOcjwlmPwnslMdRf07Y9ffcspAoisyf5YXHtpvoMkPUTqCt2pr1IGJq_Vab8_M/s1600/DSCF0681.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK_OJoGU-76-mocDGOvXT171zyImLOywXirUWUVNpfc9DW1-jdZKWIvJYlwFNRd91wGHMjSR4VJ2Odz7MOcjwlmPwnslMdRf07Y9ffcspAoisyf5YXHtpvoMkPUTqCt2pr1IGJq_Vab8_M/s1600/DSCF0681.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I poured that over the chicken and cooked it on high for about 3 hours:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmF24ze3UCZG3v9uHXd8Zca0kkArSmvLl2hOLZHdsg-vcVYex5IGsKmhonjOFNnxOHtcpV5TLboFTfagysRskS_l35-2NXLvLGPzJF4b4NQoX1XaH_fz6nHXNcyKl8mmCq1dlo0L4jW9xJ/s1600/DSCF0682.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmF24ze3UCZG3v9uHXd8Zca0kkArSmvLl2hOLZHdsg-vcVYex5IGsKmhonjOFNnxOHtcpV5TLboFTfagysRskS_l35-2NXLvLGPzJF4b4NQoX1XaH_fz6nHXNcyKl8mmCq1dlo0L4jW9xJ/s1600/DSCF0682.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I served it with rice and sesame seeds:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWlWXVh-vzxiX_qanJHgBVdFZu47BAVVPrsreGwVytPOOiGp5AeS0HCZPaJSpGYBx8Er-D0ZZobDX9dUGflCqNTIB17sT4OpV8fBSnAFgEldsDk6J645h4kfpI3d4Pht0eiIEvjXIO8UhT/s1600/DSCF0683.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWlWXVh-vzxiX_qanJHgBVdFZu47BAVVPrsreGwVytPOOiGp5AeS0HCZPaJSpGYBx8Er-D0ZZobDX9dUGflCqNTIB17sT4OpV8fBSnAFgEldsDk6J645h4kfpI3d4Pht0eiIEvjXIO8UhT/s1600/DSCF0683.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This recipe called for 2 cups of honey. I didn't use even 1 cup, and it made an enormous amount of sauce. I really liked how it turned out though. The kids liked the sweet sauce. It tasted really good soaked up into the rice.sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-74022870088180225082014-06-17T19:31:00.000-07:002014-06-17T19:31:12.408-07:00June 16: Braised Fruited LambThis is one of those recipes that I'm glad I don't have to make. Lamb is very expensive, that is if you can find it. We went to a cookout at a friend's house, so I chose not to cook this recipe. Not sure if I ever will, but you never know.sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-31773297807925881562014-06-15T21:54:00.001-07:002014-06-15T21:54:39.792-07:00June 15: Mexican Chili ChickenToday was Father's Day. We went out to Hardee's for breakfast, and we had a potluck at church for lunch, so I made this recipe for dinner. It was about 2:00 when I gathered up these ingredients:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoUGIqgHTm5m5_cl8IMV_slKRP5q7b1WyCyvy-NoG6H0EpNe9-Vw2iQYfAfWUySMqngIJrsJ1b-VLo9OOcBMqsal08j2rLxgvxs1IgX4v06jeiInOfa3VsfcHvgktCAV8zbawN09EmzFXO/s1600/DSCF0667.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoUGIqgHTm5m5_cl8IMV_slKRP5q7b1WyCyvy-NoG6H0EpNe9-Vw2iQYfAfWUySMqngIJrsJ1b-VLo9OOcBMqsal08j2rLxgvxs1IgX4v06jeiInOfa3VsfcHvgktCAV8zbawN09EmzFXO/s1600/DSCF0667.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I sliced up an onion and a couple green peppers and put them in the bottom of the Crock Pot:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOxTVGiv4OU0G4-WJ4O9mPsSM0OwWv4Ay7J-vevK0imKvsBCglpNMyoQx-3XM1pkBs10Qs3SbehalqVFKDDd6xO_n7oXlc1EX_q_SpFq7d3wPQcf7n7z_P-7QH7_nXNJOBp2TrT0Rhvnsa/s1600/DSCF0668.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOxTVGiv4OU0G4-WJ4O9mPsSM0OwWv4Ay7J-vevK0imKvsBCglpNMyoQx-3XM1pkBs10Qs3SbehalqVFKDDd6xO_n7oXlc1EX_q_SpFq7d3wPQcf7n7z_P-7QH7_nXNJOBp2TrT0Rhvnsa/s1600/DSCF0668.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I put 4 chicken thighs and 4 chicken drumsticks on top and sprinkled a tbsp. chili powder and 2 tsp. oregano on the chicken:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1xP9kRW5m0l-mfUYeTMLjhzf5r8NYhN9ZWSnyxQVnM8l9P_LEnvgaczA3rUZkXUjBZWjwrgMaYH1xzuPVSu2houyj9vygo-H92wo_24G0xYC4gFLX4HF7gRavUG1l9M7OS9PFQWN40yyS/s1600/DSCF0669.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1xP9kRW5m0l-mfUYeTMLjhzf5r8NYhN9ZWSnyxQVnM8l9P_LEnvgaczA3rUZkXUjBZWjwrgMaYH1xzuPVSu2houyj9vygo-H92wo_24G0xYC4gFLX4HF7gRavUG1l9M7OS9PFQWN40yyS/s1600/DSCF0669.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I put a jar of salsa over that and cooked it on high for 3 hours:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEhcQWrkgglT0PHR044XQpS5q930FSrJk4o-081XsepacvlvEFKA6bI1tUvduD3eMQhrkEg2wnRKAG4qKFdgPHJDoNvyqF9XDryRT2Ezc6r_sA3qx1fFhcQW5drlwaToK8IjbTnOv_RuJC/s1600/DSCF0670.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEhcQWrkgglT0PHR044XQpS5q930FSrJk4o-081XsepacvlvEFKA6bI1tUvduD3eMQhrkEg2wnRKAG4qKFdgPHJDoNvyqF9XDryRT2Ezc6r_sA3qx1fFhcQW5drlwaToK8IjbTnOv_RuJC/s1600/DSCF0670.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I removed the chicken, stirred 1/2 c. ketchup, 2 tsp. cumin, and 1/2 tsp. salt into the sauce:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjykPEfj1gFritcWfNGNdDyinrSX1YaHOO5o04Tv6iThcQo74Y9mCCXud0-L_uLsfLqWd3yS4bU0ciMHlXK7sdL7qYlLeOWmmpYM4TFGnpANB7x-XiFvOTQM_0z75Q7oUV2LOx0NjzrY63/s1600/DSCF0671.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjykPEfj1gFritcWfNGNdDyinrSX1YaHOO5o04Tv6iThcQo74Y9mCCXud0-L_uLsfLqWd3yS4bU0ciMHlXK7sdL7qYlLeOWmmpYM4TFGnpANB7x-XiFvOTQM_0z75Q7oUV2LOx0NjzrY63/s1600/DSCF0671.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I put the chicken back in the sauce and cooked it for another 15 minutes or so:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I was supposed to serve it with noodles, but I didn't make them:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I really love this. I would have called it Mexican Cacciatore. I really loved how the sauce just soaked into the chicken while you were eating it. Everyone ate it except Reuben. I think he might be getting sick or something.sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-62557909797014368302014-06-15T21:39:00.002-07:002014-06-15T21:39:35.494-07:00June 14: Spiced Sweet PotatoesHere is the sweet potato recipe that I made to go along with last night's dinner:<br />

<br />
I peeled and chopped 2 pounds of sweet potatoes, and put them in the Crock Pot with 1/4 c. brown sugar, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 1/2 tsp. nutmeg, and 1/8 tsp. salt:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I cooked it on high for 4 hours, then added 2 tbsp. butter, and 1 tsp. vanilla:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I served it with our grilled hamburgers and hot dogs:<br />

These sweet potatoes were pretty good. I may have cooked them a little too long because they were mushy. The kids thought they tasted like candy!sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-12100905942089494882014-06-15T21:29:00.000-07:002014-06-15T21:29:28.122-07:00June 13: Blueberry CobblerI made this yesterday, but I didn't cook it in the Crock Pot (it was being used for the Spiced Sweet Potatoes). I ended up cooking it in the oven on 350 for an hour. First, I gathered up these ingredients:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggtHBP4Uhy1mxNZk8lTLZHmf_e1Gnh2U_J8JyKTTXfoAEk8yjac8ORA305Rdm2h0XhYc9UW0sA5QKi47jrUE2f1Nfu1fAxO-POOo7NtgG8Q6P3IgZC1pqkxEt_7nYXSeMFAnP3FtWTc7A_/s1600/DSCF0648.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggtHBP4Uhy1mxNZk8lTLZHmf_e1Gnh2U_J8JyKTTXfoAEk8yjac8ORA305Rdm2h0XhYc9UW0sA5QKi47jrUE2f1Nfu1fAxO-POOo7NtgG8Q6P3IgZC1pqkxEt_7nYXSeMFAnP3FtWTc7A_/s1600/DSCF0648.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In a bowl I combined 3/4 cup of baking mix with 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/3 cup white sugar:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCvfTvN0gNYW03u1tm2hHrpQ8zKnYdlmwg265MvOcvtorStdzVr8BzseJqBzCsNqR5dZLeJSuESppoR6ZqmWEg3kXjkNyhkC831_vbzDjrFlXoGTchhJ_-JSF30Abmgk_VgppQZm_ZLUjW/s1600/DSCF0649.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCvfTvN0gNYW03u1tm2hHrpQ8zKnYdlmwg265MvOcvtorStdzVr8BzseJqBzCsNqR5dZLeJSuESppoR6ZqmWEg3kXjkNyhkC831_vbzDjrFlXoGTchhJ_-JSF30Abmgk_VgppQZm_ZLUjW/s1600/DSCF0649.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I added 2 eggs, 1 tsp. vanilla, and 1/2 tsp. almond extract:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3P3utdmD6RxLDbo7eR89Dumt1cIpT7BU_c97KxF-taPIT76-m1oc8H8Q_DqAZUU3ljgYo6ijeYbqbyNzOvZUiFJh79s_guwewy6gVkWZS00uxY9bIoyCfzZ_0kf7pDFSAvEP6QGAkpUW3/s1600/DSCF0650.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3P3utdmD6RxLDbo7eR89Dumt1cIpT7BU_c97KxF-taPIT76-m1oc8H8Q_DqAZUU3ljgYo6ijeYbqbyNzOvZUiFJh79s_guwewy6gVkWZS00uxY9bIoyCfzZ_0kf7pDFSAvEP6QGAkpUW3/s1600/DSCF0650.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I mixed in 5 oz. evaporated milk and 2 tsp. melted butter. Then I poured 1/4 of that mixture into a greased baking dish:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7jKaYlIbUrfYwq-G3MuMSpWMQbzuGC6Dnzn7ItOtJ9uOCRI4pjIhp-45h9anQdVzMjLdMkBtyfJqY5GyijzJFOHV55TtVXYq7eb3rdE0epjh7QZvHrp5um-OnH7PAd_pRZo9ZaF6aZ7en/s1600/DSCF0651.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7jKaYlIbUrfYwq-G3MuMSpWMQbzuGC6Dnzn7ItOtJ9uOCRI4pjIhp-45h9anQdVzMjLdMkBtyfJqY5GyijzJFOHV55TtVXYq7eb3rdE0epjh7QZvHrp5um-OnH7PAd_pRZo9ZaF6aZ7en/s1600/DSCF0651.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Three cups of blueberries were put on top of the batter:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmawwVa1w5IjlDFk7Uw41uRx2s_JnR-K8vvQ0-LP0qxMit4cUh_Kch7bZ_wZKyYepXhmLeQSkOXd4X7OokGI05fInKqKSZ4R34UOmud4XY-QQf5hkjiv_s8yjuxZD55mdPqAY_7CbEcD3z/s1600/DSCF0652.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmawwVa1w5IjlDFk7Uw41uRx2s_JnR-K8vvQ0-LP0qxMit4cUh_Kch7bZ_wZKyYepXhmLeQSkOXd4X7OokGI05fInKqKSZ4R34UOmud4XY-QQf5hkjiv_s8yjuxZD55mdPqAY_7CbEcD3z/s1600/DSCF0652.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And the rest of the batter was poured over the blueberries:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq4aie46DHAw3x0sAN9hsXdNzelFkN6L9omurazTGgLBUEcM_L8WELp0ZuqEuoaNGpZMqFhohOJpcAMyx3zKC9lbeFGb1wruoWJYBLR-fLdrpeSbW0aenBN3FlDBBd1qNJmwBcfq5z8toa/s1600/DSCF0653.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq4aie46DHAw3x0sAN9hsXdNzelFkN6L9omurazTGgLBUEcM_L8WELp0ZuqEuoaNGpZMqFhohOJpcAMyx3zKC9lbeFGb1wruoWJYBLR-fLdrpeSbW0aenBN3FlDBBd1qNJmwBcfq5z8toa/s1600/DSCF0653.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I baked it on 350 for one hour (the crockpot directions say to cook it on low for 5 to 6 hours):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvepCt0Qmwvr_KTkhBzRdhar9Mik4d3ibui_rqBR-8AixHN_Ig1vf0fHfAu3kaQV6k_dv1WcqqFsjzVMmmZYRM5RRPlc0pn2pyU8G9wnuJo2HNMligTWxoayzaQpDnRyEH3KUi0anzNiWr/s1600/DSCF0665.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvepCt0Qmwvr_KTkhBzRdhar9Mik4d3ibui_rqBR-8AixHN_Ig1vf0fHfAu3kaQV6k_dv1WcqqFsjzVMmmZYRM5RRPlc0pn2pyU8G9wnuJo2HNMligTWxoayzaQpDnRyEH3KUi0anzNiWr/s1600/DSCF0665.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I served it warm with vanilla ice cream:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYS0Q9033PvA1pPsc2MyODkFtw6AUAFCBj2iYW3uPuRqk81NwqSpyGmsCPxOhaOE8Rc8sL7P6d7FypqqxYqPQ3_d-n1eMpq8G9LgQrzvWLiAQZXq1Bp4NAy43QVwggez7iUzzzPFFUYyMb/s1600/DSCF0666.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYS0Q9033PvA1pPsc2MyODkFtw6AUAFCBj2iYW3uPuRqk81NwqSpyGmsCPxOhaOE8Rc8sL7P6d7FypqqxYqPQ3_d-n1eMpq8G9LgQrzvWLiAQZXq1Bp4NAy43QVwggez7iUzzzPFFUYyMb/s1600/DSCF0666.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This cobbler had a strange consistency that I wasn't expecting, sort of gummy, like tapioca pudding, but it tasted really good, especially with the ice cream. I liked the crusty edges the best. Of course, the kids and DH really loved it.sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-3237809694346046282014-06-13T21:44:00.000-07:002014-06-13T21:44:28.535-07:00June 12: Butternut Squash-Apple Soup<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hubby wanted to cook out tonight, so we had this soup as an appetizer. I gathered up these ingredients at about 1:00pm:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEik89rRpacCmq_aX_QCPsPm4dCYYjhZ3rvTHb4mleuGa9GMpj9fChIQt7ZdRarGWNxlQLyh2rMSwg_RopZZAYcrDzX_OkvI7u3A5UgUghVwmltluwPS9tzcfP031ezs69s-3G7gbcFJSioz/s1600/DSCF0632.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEik89rRpacCmq_aX_QCPsPm4dCYYjhZ3rvTHb4mleuGa9GMpj9fChIQt7ZdRarGWNxlQLyh2rMSwg_RopZZAYcrDzX_OkvI7u3A5UgUghVwmltluwPS9tzcfP031ezs69s-3G7gbcFJSioz/s1600/DSCF0632.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Meanwhile, I baked a butternut squash in the oven and mashed it up:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit4K2bKbsbr_fBSjsH28jsQFPRvW6n39zvGiSVPUTcjOoG8mVJZSSatwi8h_A-XyWFRQNrOKYsnkwY6DoXXHqjHQAcseq-OxDcVTCam3feu3qoEMFT_vF42HGxe_SIvQemtmWdnwQtz-_-/s1600/DSCF0633.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit4K2bKbsbr_fBSjsH28jsQFPRvW6n39zvGiSVPUTcjOoG8mVJZSSatwi8h_A-XyWFRQNrOKYsnkwY6DoXXHqjHQAcseq-OxDcVTCam3feu3qoEMFT_vF42HGxe_SIvQemtmWdnwQtz-_-/s1600/DSCF0633.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In the Crock Pot, I combined the squash with a quart of chicken broth, a peeled and chopped golden delicious apple, 2 tbsp. chopped onion, a tbsp. brown sugar, 1/2 tsp. sage, and 1/4 tsp. ginger:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWc4VI_yBraI9KZazZAgFTH7whwDEwpQ_x-FQnKzQkvoMsafOafCQS12gM6PyqBBXI7K8j5wRbhE47mWHTXeZPqlG3r3fsZz1CY7SdlLVEgHFjhA3DXmgrmpjcnv083D5huUVt0Cd714aW/s1600/DSCF0634.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWc4VI_yBraI9KZazZAgFTH7whwDEwpQ_x-FQnKzQkvoMsafOafCQS12gM6PyqBBXI7K8j5wRbhE47mWHTXeZPqlG3r3fsZz1CY7SdlLVEgHFjhA3DXmgrmpjcnv083D5huUVt0Cd714aW/s1600/DSCF0634.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I cooked it on high for 3 hours, then pureed it with my hand blender:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihJD4lwjgpSMVekfrWdP7RibCt1RQo9j89vmaFugQr_WHfcP37GM6mp-D989ImlwM56NzrdbDLsyVYXDU2cWA7VmRhpl6PADUF16-46Fvzj3q2ejOEKs9_wgJEKeQJ9yUZxkL7VJs0bNMA/s1600/DSCF0635.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihJD4lwjgpSMVekfrWdP7RibCt1RQo9j89vmaFugQr_WHfcP37GM6mp-D989ImlwM56NzrdbDLsyVYXDU2cWA7VmRhpl6PADUF16-46Fvzj3q2ejOEKs9_wgJEKeQJ9yUZxkL7VJs0bNMA/s1600/DSCF0635.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDej3vYQDCoEoSd5GtEz9UavyIed8ombTK2v9-I4oI-k-qipknT4mvftvQnrkAtoOIsLNyJQCRjp5ro_w2AHpBlFibAAlTzJCMydGjEb0pDmMvZMRmG0OkUw8d2c7lF8r24dyqTp-bsiSN/s1600/DSCF0636.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDej3vYQDCoEoSd5GtEz9UavyIed8ombTK2v9-I4oI-k-qipknT4mvftvQnrkAtoOIsLNyJQCRjp5ro_w2AHpBlFibAAlTzJCMydGjEb0pDmMvZMRmG0OkUw8d2c7lF8r24dyqTp-bsiSN/s1600/DSCF0636.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I served it with a little whipping cream:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT7FiFf_u0eibGSRWdfseKXhFMk1OjH5ZYMqGhceFDbSAZ_9F38QVFFv5h6GP8O8lTpOLI-DkWs9If-CGreI3T37ItbIoczNi9YnJc8Od75GkwAVkTCGomtYCZeIKn26t8BqkXhO7PjsXr/s1600/DSCF0637.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT7FiFf_u0eibGSRWdfseKXhFMk1OjH5ZYMqGhceFDbSAZ_9F38QVFFv5h6GP8O8lTpOLI-DkWs9If-CGreI3T37ItbIoczNi9YnJc8Od75GkwAVkTCGomtYCZeIKn26t8BqkXhO7PjsXr/s1600/DSCF0637.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
The soup was pretty good. I think it would be better on a cold fall day, but it wasn't too hot today, so it was still good. The kids liked it too (except Reuben, but he hasn't been eating much lately, so that's to be expected).</div>
sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-71307123333645845552014-06-12T21:43:00.000-07:002014-06-12T21:43:09.143-07:00June 11: Baked BeansI've been making a lot of beans lately! I was gone all day today, dentists appointments for me and the kids, grocery shopping, and shopping for other stuff. It was tiring, and I didn't even get to start dinner until 4:00. These beans were supposed to cook in the Crock Pot for 8 to 12 hours! I attempted them in the oven. I gathered up these ingredients:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6r7dDU5FEeR72_D2gguCfyVluohTUXgH255cooaTQ6LH9ula7-UHDr0xnaaJSzSNuWUPUu4EHlgvdecG90o3dj50k5ZrduMTDZLvGcbkTMa4tqxjY87opMBjSqb3aORRAcPb-74auD-2s/s1600/DSCF0624.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6r7dDU5FEeR72_D2gguCfyVluohTUXgH255cooaTQ6LH9ula7-UHDr0xnaaJSzSNuWUPUu4EHlgvdecG90o3dj50k5ZrduMTDZLvGcbkTMa4tqxjY87opMBjSqb3aORRAcPb-74auD-2s/s1600/DSCF0624.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So I used a Corningware dish instead of the Crock Pot. In it I put a big can of baked beans, a cup of ketchup, a half cup each of barbecue sauce and brown sugar, 5 chopped slices of bacon, 1/2 chopped bell pepper, 1/2 chopped onion, and 1 1/2 tsp. mustard:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrz0YAvNdy0lewj56xtbUnwCo4mFgpnOGG_gRX4uQSTtFG9UZMo6SnmZ4BKuN_JOD4yDxDwBLHvzjvOWc9r6101wObCwFLyiivJ4siPenzIUCGUBoTGm9EMMlNLkhSw-nl0wtQtsBOE80X/s1600/DSCF0625.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrz0YAvNdy0lewj56xtbUnwCo4mFgpnOGG_gRX4uQSTtFG9UZMo6SnmZ4BKuN_JOD4yDxDwBLHvzjvOWc9r6101wObCwFLyiivJ4siPenzIUCGUBoTGm9EMMlNLkhSw-nl0wtQtsBOE80X/s1600/DSCF0625.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I stirred it up and cooked it in the oven on 350 for about an hour.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnBwKciyrfvWkE9NcE_rwOGE-dfFvOKsG39GQ3bMger_Nr0QlphRZwDEvCPUp_YsmjLo83rrIqUrhIRFbOXkfa_BWpXYHkpvN1isBj83dLhfE3OKxECWt7yzEhBqxtfHvMClhMikCWwnBz/s1600/DSCF0626.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnBwKciyrfvWkE9NcE_rwOGE-dfFvOKsG39GQ3bMger_Nr0QlphRZwDEvCPUp_YsmjLo83rrIqUrhIRFbOXkfa_BWpXYHkpvN1isBj83dLhfE3OKxECWt7yzEhBqxtfHvMClhMikCWwnBz/s1600/DSCF0626.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I served it with chopped parsley:<br />

I didn't cook this long enough the first time. We ate our servings, but then I put it back in the oven because the bacon was soft and the onions and peppers were still crunchy. After I cooked it for another hour, it was much better. I tried looking at other recipes to see how long I should cook it. But it really needed longer. This was good, but it was way too sweet. Next time I might only put a tbsp. of brown sugar in instead of 1/2 cup. Especially if I use brown sugar barbecue sauce. Otherwise, this would make a really great dish for a potluck or side dish at a barbecue.sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-62424426492186652512014-06-11T20:40:00.001-07:002014-06-11T20:40:49.308-07:00June 10: Five-Bean CasseroleOur house smelled heavenly all day with this casserole cooking. I started it at about 9:30 or 10 this morning. I gathered up these ingredients:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikovTYP1ro0tAcNjZO0aIj3qexzZJP3-rGhxowRszfjfCj-TduxkwlSvhkqKO7PkVO-KG6-f95R4YnFx0XETTm2KuUNC-36U8NnGUfyaltyZKICT9EOCy9OFxHSkIudqrTDhhj9iXSELmW/s1600/DSCF0618.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikovTYP1ro0tAcNjZO0aIj3qexzZJP3-rGhxowRszfjfCj-TduxkwlSvhkqKO7PkVO-KG6-f95R4YnFx0XETTm2KuUNC-36U8NnGUfyaltyZKICT9EOCy9OFxHSkIudqrTDhhj9iXSELmW/s1600/DSCF0618.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I chopped up a couple onions, a couple cloves of garlic, and a half pound of bacon, then cooked them in a pan until the onions were soft:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinbq0jI49jHD0-u1J98mGJA2NCkQpYd66otRhlkTmaT6z9YwaVHVDRtru1Bu2SSn5ij8ski5TL2tyJpibv8u_mp8GYfO5jx9fPunqkG2XAV_17o_BfpvJ2xVJSja0W_5O987RXTmgrn1GU/s1600/DSCF0619.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinbq0jI49jHD0-u1J98mGJA2NCkQpYd66otRhlkTmaT6z9YwaVHVDRtru1Bu2SSn5ij8ski5TL2tyJpibv8u_mp8GYfO5jx9fPunqkG2XAV_17o_BfpvJ2xVJSja0W_5O987RXTmgrn1GU/s1600/DSCF0619.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
While that was cooking, I put 5 kinds of canned beans in the Crock Pot: kidney (2 cans), Great Northern, chick peas, butter beans, and baked beans:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhoT_JnuYS_bQNN6poDYbC7U11wn60rOGB7QxfbDrem4WG9kIH-sJRFUn2IlLkqOooR_akmSyAiV-SvnmAMlAWTLJ3mxBEHXyVogbQorVn2TtADoMqM7USyqw3gxx-_0223_QupewDCwRy/s1600/DSCF0620.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhoT_JnuYS_bQNN6poDYbC7U11wn60rOGB7QxfbDrem4WG9kIH-sJRFUn2IlLkqOooR_akmSyAiV-SvnmAMlAWTLJ3mxBEHXyVogbQorVn2TtADoMqM7USyqw3gxx-_0223_QupewDCwRy/s1600/DSCF0620.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
To the onions, I added 1/2 c. brown sugar, 1/2 c. cider vinegar, a tsp. dry mustard, a tsp. salt, and 1/4 tsp. pepper. I let that simmer for 15 minutes:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVw5gzH63s8oyMDQBomPv58PnkvtcwdZa6txvnmfhLhzNE0J6waTFFz_H3xYYS1RYsqlYn8eKUga_0qbH_w003mSpI8MK7hAJnAbahgylNNjUgOEH1y4t8xry6uA6TaFnK2425JQpR38LM/s1600/DSCF0621.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVw5gzH63s8oyMDQBomPv58PnkvtcwdZa6txvnmfhLhzNE0J6waTFFz_H3xYYS1RYsqlYn8eKUga_0qbH_w003mSpI8MK7hAJnAbahgylNNjUgOEH1y4t8xry6uA6TaFnK2425JQpR38LM/s1600/DSCF0621.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I spooned the onion mixture evenly over the beans and cooked it on low for about 8 hours:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAdZklbNjkepHmMLbbG67-f6Wy1iMp_dCRv9lTqospLlf-tIUNdd77Dpy0ZXMgff7NCRzvFle90cFUE5l-AzICVZEucwBGf8qtffbPiwREeTyaj0ogQclAqFelXAiu28yivXkIOPDSoZUB/s1600/DSCF0622.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAdZklbNjkepHmMLbbG67-f6Wy1iMp_dCRv9lTqospLlf-tIUNdd77Dpy0ZXMgff7NCRzvFle90cFUE5l-AzICVZEucwBGf8qtffbPiwREeTyaj0ogQclAqFelXAiu28yivXkIOPDSoZUB/s1600/DSCF0622.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I served it sprinkled with chopped green onions:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHio8SYFm7YyVjqPK6bGEOzSWaGKXhdrTcGRjpRbFsIImd3EHBrv5-IIQyZwRnMk28_EeWP0CsPT7rHBDSzUBnlC1RZmjiVnNxNA_ULerD_IXeA9SlZwk5qrSKzlAOaQ_gss3g83ff0ywA/s1600/DSCF0623.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHio8SYFm7YyVjqPK6bGEOzSWaGKXhdrTcGRjpRbFsIImd3EHBrv5-IIQyZwRnMk28_EeWP0CsPT7rHBDSzUBnlC1RZmjiVnNxNA_ULerD_IXeA9SlZwk5qrSKzlAOaQ_gss3g83ff0ywA/s1600/DSCF0623.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
These beans had a deliciously sweet flavor, and they were perfectly cooked. I thought it was better than the soup from yesterday. I didn't used to like beans, but I do tolerate them now. These I can say were actually good!sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-85503797020220635232014-06-10T22:41:00.000-07:002014-06-11T10:35:09.667-07:00June 9: Arizona Ranch BeansI attempted to make these for dinner tonight, but I didn't get them started until 10:30, so they weren't even done until after the kids went to bed. Here are the ingredients:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqcchMISI_WaiSqpdf8dx0MGF44_JXIgQg8SKwbnP7xEkqFia08MTWW-GEr5kADZ8yfaKX374Swlo_sbXRjd9ApC48kvXwLrHrbBhyZstJ9azkMMIop3jvDuD5TVikzUl4dKEaQba4YcHo/s1600/DSCF0612.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqcchMISI_WaiSqpdf8dx0MGF44_JXIgQg8SKwbnP7xEkqFia08MTWW-GEr5kADZ8yfaKX374Swlo_sbXRjd9ApC48kvXwLrHrbBhyZstJ9azkMMIop3jvDuD5TVikzUl4dKEaQba4YcHo/s1600/DSCF0612.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I put them all in the crock pot, except the limes: 1 pound soaked pinto beans, 8 cups water, 1/2 pound cooked crumbled bacon, 2 tbsp. of the bacon drippings, a can of coarsely chopped tomatoes, 2 chopped onions, 2 minced garlic cloves, a can of diced green chilies, 1 tsp. chili powder, 1/2 tsp. oregano, and 1/4 tsp. cumin:<br />

I cooked it on low for 10 hours and served it seasoned with salt and lime juice:<br />

We ended up having pizza for dinner, so this was our bedtime snack. These beans had a very comfort-food flavor, very homey. I liked them. It was a really big batch, and we have bean recipes for the next two days, so I hope we'll be able to eat them all. I really hope the kids like them!sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-90683089632131337572014-06-09T21:54:00.001-07:002014-06-09T21:54:32.071-07:00June 8: Cape Cod StewI was supposed to make this recipe yesterday, but I had some setbacks, so I made it today. I'm a day behind now, so I wonder how I'll get caught up. We'll see. Here are the ingredients for tonight's recipe:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV5TUWMagDmnYBBh7I2lBy8Jo2QBP89pxCj0zHEr5oEaIFyvlGxqm6ECXHl3STEjl3txOMTrGj2lgiN8R5w-GmufMCXLHNAbUnxGpGnlk0d813nFTy4M6JjCYZwsBYIJW0w2tcDky4scW1/s1600/DSCF0606.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV5TUWMagDmnYBBh7I2lBy8Jo2QBP89pxCj0zHEr5oEaIFyvlGxqm6ECXHl3STEjl3txOMTrGj2lgiN8R5w-GmufMCXLHNAbUnxGpGnlk0d813nFTy4M6JjCYZwsBYIJW0w2tcDky4scW1/s1600/DSCF0606.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In the Crock Pot, I put 2 cans chopped tomatoes, 4 cups beef broth, 1/2 cup chopped onions, 1/2 cup chopped carrots, (I left out the 1/2 c. cilantro for my husband's sake), a tbsp. sea salt (I thought 2 would be a bit excessive), 2 tsp. minced garlic, 2 tsp. lemon juice, 4 bay leaves, and 1 tsp. thyme ( I left out the 1/2 tsp. saffron, since it was over $17 for the jar... more than I paid for 2 lobsters!):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggs6Y7A1kKdEM9tpAMftdnEkAfI18kMKPjeCnRyux1dHJvA3entbO_ds-rT7WM2aT_Paaz9t-nChQ5NXdzY7TVvjrbYRPvTbsL4NN9iCayofkI3PKUOLPOA0ec_n3NrP0XxbY23We1RRkb/s1600/DSCF0607.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggs6Y7A1kKdEM9tpAMftdnEkAfI18kMKPjeCnRyux1dHJvA3entbO_ds-rT7WM2aT_Paaz9t-nChQ5NXdzY7TVvjrbYRPvTbsL4NN9iCayofkI3PKUOLPOA0ec_n3NrP0XxbY23We1RRkb/s1600/DSCF0607.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I cooked it on high for 6 hours, then I added 2 pounds of shrimp, 2 pounds cubed white fish, 2 lobsters (was supposed to be 3, but I couldn't afford it), and a pound of mussels:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUEj3HpLryfwxNTEu_1D0xM1o-ws6Gphx_JDo9IUM7qisyi9dPUgDx8SjvbooJJEV1cRWhFoLvP00duRNVQwQvuZYBcLy-RlPnx0Z5XpAfBukW1wqP8_MnqwEokhuPvpnqNL_tcYyoVOvA/s1600/DSCF0608.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUEj3HpLryfwxNTEu_1D0xM1o-ws6Gphx_JDo9IUM7qisyi9dPUgDx8SjvbooJJEV1cRWhFoLvP00duRNVQwQvuZYBcLy-RlPnx0Z5XpAfBukW1wqP8_MnqwEokhuPvpnqNL_tcYyoVOvA/s1600/DSCF0608.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I cooked it for another hour, but I had to switch pots and cook it some more on the stove since the Crock Pot was too full. When the seafood was cooked through, I served it with a hammer:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCci3gP4ZOET0mryzrKUohc7PBbJRnHrhGGQc1-_Ui7s7gWclGEQJubVUeWNKfeJhyURMZauuGMSkcctQSkPP9YM5MV1cEoWjDBJ5iWPW5hfatiDN_t1b-0aphx7m-B312IVQ6MUpnTKOY/s1600/DSCF0611.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCci3gP4ZOET0mryzrKUohc7PBbJRnHrhGGQc1-_Ui7s7gWclGEQJubVUeWNKfeJhyURMZauuGMSkcctQSkPP9YM5MV1cEoWjDBJ5iWPW5hfatiDN_t1b-0aphx7m-B312IVQ6MUpnTKOY/s1600/DSCF0611.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Wow, this soup was excessive! We did not need that much meat! And we may be eating this for days. It really tasted good. I couldn't find raw lobster or mussels, so they came pre-cooked. I think they were a little over-done. Other than that, the soup was excellent, and even DH, who wasn't looking forward to it, had fun using his new Cutco knife to break open the lobster's shell to get the meat out. Everyone but Susanna finished their soup, and I even had seconds.sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-44532533116217351192014-06-08T20:39:00.000-07:002014-06-08T20:39:55.658-07:00June 7: Orange Cranberry-Nut BreadI made this yesterday - Saturday - the perfect day to make something special for breakfast. The recipe calls for a 3-quart Crock Pot, which I don't have, so I baked this in the oven. Supposedly, you cook it for 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours on high.<br />
<br />
I started this yesterday morning at about 8:30 or 9:00. I gathered up these ingredients:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7qZh5g3xyVW82svdH5b0S05HaLthXNTdffVTbFdteUiFvVSo53KLzLhg2xfLB5W5YRkluWNLlY8pk2X6aTrycyAlH4rmO8UEeLZGbLd6yP4rM6e46pG-HUu5djCP3ndsi2FjzYrMUN9p9/s1600/DSCF0591.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7qZh5g3xyVW82svdH5b0S05HaLthXNTdffVTbFdteUiFvVSo53KLzLhg2xfLB5W5YRkluWNLlY8pk2X6aTrycyAlH4rmO8UEeLZGbLd6yP4rM6e46pG-HUu5djCP3ndsi2FjzYrMUN9p9/s1600/DSCF0591.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In a medium bowl, I combined 2 cups flour, 1 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. baking soda, 1/4 tsp. salt, and 1/2 cup chopped pecans:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifOfeKNoqp53ZsNSllGrHui1KSfvT5-SL6MQ0DZ8Dqa-cnrVeJosctO5p1560W7MT1hTrhOUkIEHk1yBMaptMNVf6epNzcqlxAgcGnGwedNG8cGI_jcR_o5gh2DqoF7clCf8hSRtGPzb9p/s1600/DSCF0592.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifOfeKNoqp53ZsNSllGrHui1KSfvT5-SL6MQ0DZ8Dqa-cnrVeJosctO5p1560W7MT1hTrhOUkIEHk1yBMaptMNVf6epNzcqlxAgcGnGwedNG8cGI_jcR_o5gh2DqoF7clCf8hSRtGPzb9p/s1600/DSCF0592.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In a large bow, I put 1 cup dried cranberries, 2 tsp. dried orange peel, and 2/3 c. boiling water:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi22Qv19obveTcwZkwDdUZKD2D4YURnbT3jvOLSe-7a8H8ROOvMB7CRa1owd5jNZ1a1UbXjeEJHu-2QWHmKoEpym_PO81ccqnbUg4UWpT8k6IhDNrFScu1dwVhBvHTH4w16kRkRlf3WFoq8/s1600/DSCF0593.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi22Qv19obveTcwZkwDdUZKD2D4YURnbT3jvOLSe-7a8H8ROOvMB7CRa1owd5jNZ1a1UbXjeEJHu-2QWHmKoEpym_PO81ccqnbUg4UWpT8k6IhDNrFScu1dwVhBvHTH4w16kRkRlf3WFoq8/s1600/DSCF0593.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I added 3/4 c. sugar, 2 tbsp. shortening, and an egg:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgelBfCyIcPhI72ulOBI1Rp8Z-9zRyg3iWWMxn6HR0jcTgEFy_dIDOOjNWMRuFe9udJldobyVgEC_YWiq8KZiLHIiMQVOCuHsJtFrk65vaJR1Yrh2OQVFP6-vN9yVyJ9_eJ1yGRfNFFD7-5/s1600/DSCF0594.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgelBfCyIcPhI72ulOBI1Rp8Z-9zRyg3iWWMxn6HR0jcTgEFy_dIDOOjNWMRuFe9udJldobyVgEC_YWiq8KZiLHIiMQVOCuHsJtFrk65vaJR1Yrh2OQVFP6-vN9yVyJ9_eJ1yGRfNFFD7-5/s1600/DSCF0594.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
After I stirred in the dry ingredients, I spread the batter into a greased loaf pan:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZnBTVGCV09sIDt7B4AEAuKVNXklowXKdAEY_I0rdsWxx4_CVF_e0XK0hOKwehhcAg36ZzBdHtTXfKROyWYfso_PZOWruRjGGeh3udDleuCHJ5jv7QSsmcFXcyh4jD1BZDmctbBuW_dMBb/s1600/DSCF0595.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZnBTVGCV09sIDt7B4AEAuKVNXklowXKdAEY_I0rdsWxx4_CVF_e0XK0hOKwehhcAg36ZzBdHtTXfKROyWYfso_PZOWruRjGGeh3udDleuCHJ5jv7QSsmcFXcyh4jD1BZDmctbBuW_dMBb/s1600/DSCF0595.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I baked it at 350 for about 35 minutes maybe (I kept having to put it back in because it was still doughy. I wasn't sure how long to bake it):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLoupwwlwHHJMoYQwwtisyI87kjhXH2tNWWksOjNU6CYzq3YV5ovkFbQTs77UKHBNPX1eosObCbIae3HuysbifLPCU0DxKh-3lEwqLFU-g5PE3ny62ilmpuxbs4Cs8NqWAPK_AwINphYAe/s1600/DSCF0596.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLoupwwlwHHJMoYQwwtisyI87kjhXH2tNWWksOjNU6CYzq3YV5ovkFbQTs77UKHBNPX1eosObCbIae3HuysbifLPCU0DxKh-3lEwqLFU-g5PE3ny62ilmpuxbs4Cs8NqWAPK_AwINphYAe/s1600/DSCF0596.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I served it warm with homemade butter:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I couldn't believe how delicious this bread was. It wasn't too sweet, but the nuts and cranberries were the perfect consistency and the orange gave it an incredible depth of flavor. Everyone wanted seconds! I will definitely make this again as maybe a once-a-year treat!</div>

I made it in the pot on the stove, because I didn't start it until it was too late to make it in the Crock Pot. Here are the ingredients:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPb8c-hBK076yyKbVxRZYMM2MWfxdnb4zIzC09tzwLS7gx0B0aLIY8pFo0ybgy7LJW3e-40_tCvkiG4it5v6YCzvR0CRdgLa4WD0OfPou_GBH-c5WGCppYeBgk2remSsGcGX-HMU6DYXLd/s1600/DSCF0587.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPb8c-hBK076yyKbVxRZYMM2MWfxdnb4zIzC09tzwLS7gx0B0aLIY8pFo0ybgy7LJW3e-40_tCvkiG4it5v6YCzvR0CRdgLa4WD0OfPou_GBH-c5WGCppYeBgk2remSsGcGX-HMU6DYXLd/s1600/DSCF0587.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I sliced an onion and minced 3 cloves of garlic, then sauteed them in olive oil for 5 minutes:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4Og9qKIcQw_EDfSAcXoZdUj1GI3tHCaQpZ1IVFGIt2lBr6jldCB04qiRQMuRunaOLaiqxACFzls08THrjWL7Jk9eC6b0ymstfRpcU5lfAcK5tcq63YEWSZGlA07FyBkiZ54f1MLXE67_F/s1600/DSCF0588.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4Og9qKIcQw_EDfSAcXoZdUj1GI3tHCaQpZ1IVFGIt2lBr6jldCB04qiRQMuRunaOLaiqxACFzls08THrjWL7Jk9eC6b0ymstfRpcU5lfAcK5tcq63YEWSZGlA07FyBkiZ54f1MLXE67_F/s1600/DSCF0588.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I stirred in 2 pounds of cleaned and chopped kale and let it turn bright green:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyXxhBj8yT3uTTZw6UAs_2zf35RWHqamwfabGtxk0ctmZEEUELYHhO1qDjA81-l-OFsceAEklyJXUvq-jwjjoPrBtL3xmAKJXt_b7PeLM0AOmmBc4JJ_RdaJ9AX85O8-4kvQzlCFtyiW8g/s1600/DSCF0589.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyXxhBj8yT3uTTZw6UAs_2zf35RWHqamwfabGtxk0ctmZEEUELYHhO1qDjA81-l-OFsceAEklyJXUvq-jwjjoPrBtL3xmAKJXt_b7PeLM0AOmmBc4JJ_RdaJ9AX85O8-4kvQzlCFtyiW8g/s1600/DSCF0589.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I added 8 cups of chicken stock and let the kale soften. I served the soup garnished with olive oil and shredded Parmesan. We had it as a side to our roasted chicken:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0x3Vo1KZN8802Dgj3NFuwFt8Sgjnc7mqfhq6n81kqYJzx1fIXS3GFJHglG9gp3HgSUXRhrMNk1IHFJrhFi6E677oLJprI5Om6zZRQXP-I5FlycPWNq9I84D9IzPWQdTGy2rd-Xdbu8HmF/s1600/DSCF0590.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0x3Vo1KZN8802Dgj3NFuwFt8Sgjnc7mqfhq6n81kqYJzx1fIXS3GFJHglG9gp3HgSUXRhrMNk1IHFJrhFi6E677oLJprI5Om6zZRQXP-I5FlycPWNq9I84D9IzPWQdTGy2rd-Xdbu8HmF/s1600/DSCF0590.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
My family thought they would not like this soup, but they did. It had a great flavor and is super healthy. It's really good as a side dish.sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-34454608451254823072014-06-05T23:32:00.000-07:002014-06-05T23:32:36.819-07:00June 5: Easy Family BurritosHere's the recipe I made for dinner tonight. It had to cook all day, so I put it in at about 8:30 am. I gathered up the main ingredients:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnDxYxgPnnAEYX2ndiDf2ya9otTnuNHvCACXq75QLw0PhbCHXB6Y6UTZTzkH_-LEqOZ9TQpiyX_ZjPUtnCUhyphenhyphenCzHRYW5GrDLe-pt3CMhQGzLKR54h9CCICvWlMyKuGWCkjUSugv3FQNl87/s1600/DSCF0578.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnDxYxgPnnAEYX2ndiDf2ya9otTnuNHvCACXq75QLw0PhbCHXB6Y6UTZTzkH_-LEqOZ9TQpiyX_ZjPUtnCUhyphenhyphenCzHRYW5GrDLe-pt3CMhQGzLKR54h9CCICvWlMyKuGWCkjUSugv3FQNl87/s1600/DSCF0578.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I put a 2 1/2 pound beef roast into the Crock Pot and poured a jar of salsa on top. I cooked it for about 8 hours on low:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirtwnNnZGCLlnpcKn4iqvbXLHzCGwClRqm9qs2zOZFhU4eEa3zYNvINq2zY7en09TF9iVAOP4G-5hjqeCXWeMje-Z0n5NyT7KBgSNHVuV5ghWzxzNyubT0TDsTlZggouvVj7cfmde7T5Ua/s1600/DSCF0579.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirtwnNnZGCLlnpcKn4iqvbXLHzCGwClRqm9qs2zOZFhU4eEa3zYNvINq2zY7en09TF9iVAOP4G-5hjqeCXWeMje-Z0n5NyT7KBgSNHVuV5ghWzxzNyubT0TDsTlZggouvVj7cfmde7T5Ua/s1600/DSCF0579.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I removed the beef to a platter and shredded it with a fork:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhirFkS-M7bZpg8AuuMljcDoM5tfdaKIibmv0IKaOlzAnIhoPnAuNM71Lm124g_cJ8cDijBBv2nduoCUrb2WNGBTg4oArp11-y0DfzMzSa7SNpSVQtS0pMQ9wtQTmv9pRlbyg-QAaIwWKv9/s1600/DSCF0580.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhirFkS-M7bZpg8AuuMljcDoM5tfdaKIibmv0IKaOlzAnIhoPnAuNM71Lm124g_cJ8cDijBBv2nduoCUrb2WNGBTg4oArp11-y0DfzMzSa7SNpSVQtS0pMQ9wtQTmv9pRlbyg-QAaIwWKv9/s1600/DSCF0580.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I put the beef back in the Crock Pot and stirred it up with the liquid. Then I cooked it for another hour or so:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg5Te47pCSCQ-JrO_qSQauondxfVyQmRUoxzIpKHoJWrXNjSrKPKtVs3HdJYv7O_dfmE0pcfakATcTyrv7NPVD57NSvKV_O6ISORTIQPZm6LZg_vl2-Oy-gwQ6wB_IOJektHzrlrBtmOS6/s1600/DSCF0581.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg5Te47pCSCQ-JrO_qSQauondxfVyQmRUoxzIpKHoJWrXNjSrKPKtVs3HdJYv7O_dfmE0pcfakATcTyrv7NPVD57NSvKV_O6ISORTIQPZm6LZg_vl2-Oy-gwQ6wB_IOJektHzrlrBtmOS6/s1600/DSCF0581.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I must have been so hungry that I forgot to take a picture of my burrito! I served the beef on flour tortillas topped with diced tomatoes, sour cream, cilantro, salsa, and lettuce. They were so good. This burrito filling is delicious, you'd think it wouldn't be so easy to make! I would make this again and again.sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-87727942090741916032014-06-04T20:25:00.001-07:002014-06-04T20:25:32.068-07:00June 4: Chicken and Sweet Potato StewI put this dinner on at about 9:00 this morning. This soup didn't smell very good - I think it was the tomatoes, but it tasted much better than it smelled. Here are the ingredients:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDoq0M1i6b6V_tr3l0FQWwSE3XWXPsaeepmmAN5hdjqf_kSGhZd1hutgEGLm4h7VMjWU2D9q-fW8Uo0rk-d55sXMUtyawzYYF8TrJ3ALilB12fcWRtDmI1Evh4MX-nZjn_500uWf_Kc02w/s1600/DSCF0559.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDoq0M1i6b6V_tr3l0FQWwSE3XWXPsaeepmmAN5hdjqf_kSGhZd1hutgEGLm4h7VMjWU2D9q-fW8Uo0rk-d55sXMUtyawzYYF8TrJ3ALilB12fcWRtDmI1Evh4MX-nZjn_500uWf_Kc02w/s1600/DSCF0559.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>

I added the cheese to the wine and melted it, then added 3 tbsp. kirsch, 1 tsp. each of mace and pepper, and 1/2 tsp. of paprika:<br />

<br />
I transferred that to the Crock Pot and let it cook for 30 minutes on high and about 2 hours on low. I chopped up some veggies and a loaf of Italian bread to go with the fondue:<br />

I'm not sure what went wrong, but I'm fairly certain fondue is not supposed to look like this. Now, I've never had cheese fondue before, but this was so yucky. The cheese was all clumpy and hard - hard to chew, and the liquid tasted like liquor. I thought it was supposed to be creamy, but I could be wrong. I don't think I will ever make this again! I thought about having guests over tonight, but I'm so glad I didn't. I was embarrassed as it is with just my hubby and kids there (they hated it BTW)!sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-38279241556694493992014-06-02T20:50:00.001-07:002014-06-02T20:50:25.814-07:00June 2: Bananas FosterTonight we had pizza for dinner and this was our dessert. These are the ingredients for the bananas foster:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQyi-TS3qTlUzDyqktmHCDuT8zR9aIy2_udQni8RFb_D2cUFjNg5lV-5kdVeHyRLKrqCjK2aXDbvXGhSO5XLLBjtPYj8dYeppzmSxBqRTxk_D_XHvP_7NOvmUbwfbrs2oQprlhobMerLFj/s1600/DSCF0554.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQyi-TS3qTlUzDyqktmHCDuT8zR9aIy2_udQni8RFb_D2cUFjNg5lV-5kdVeHyRLKrqCjK2aXDbvXGhSO5XLLBjtPYj8dYeppzmSxBqRTxk_D_XHvP_7NOvmUbwfbrs2oQprlhobMerLFj/s1600/DSCF0554.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I quartered 12 bananas and put them in the Crock Pot with a cup of coconut:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNf_WOSBBiZOGelSNBWVIRY9Tg7qv4fOukfWGdr0AVABrh6CuYaUR-GfK2UDnA4atLHDBlXxDlJ7na7dmXy_k1cnStBUUxVfaiRZa1dp1OlX5jNyyNttvpsTv2v-TNOo7wmoLxdHFvtTqd/s1600/DSCF0555.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNf_WOSBBiZOGelSNBWVIRY9Tg7qv4fOukfWGdr0AVABrh6CuYaUR-GfK2UDnA4atLHDBlXxDlJ7na7dmXy_k1cnStBUUxVfaiRZa1dp1OlX5jNyyNttvpsTv2v-TNOo7wmoLxdHFvtTqd/s1600/DSCF0555.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In a bowl I mixed up a cup of dark corn syrup, 2/3 cup of melted butter, 2 tsp. lemon peel, 1/4 cup lemon juice, 2 tsp. rum, a tsp. cinnamon, and 1/2 tsp. salt:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6_7MZW_AtME6oI4Cs2-ywgzfxPAGsynJskf6lhptZO6eDJPkEdSk9qPA1G66B7oQ1XGkN3uDjMqVcZJrcj87RIXttEN27FsQuuHrKy3EzR-jAUiGBwh6DhEgSm9_BLUICiLU8TFZmgE7L/s1600/DSCF0556.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6_7MZW_AtME6oI4Cs2-ywgzfxPAGsynJskf6lhptZO6eDJPkEdSk9qPA1G66B7oQ1XGkN3uDjMqVcZJrcj87RIXttEN27FsQuuHrKy3EzR-jAUiGBwh6DhEgSm9_BLUICiLU8TFZmgE7L/s1600/DSCF0556.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I poured that over the bananas, then cooked it on low for 1 or 2 hours:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDTem4nUr1VAmYhVrlBBR12763cOfBukCKg6webSQr6Tzwd2W74_5EK3nar2T6aqX-L7ph8ELGVvuOFUxBUPuXNwYCjoQdfI9a9OJgtz6XJKlAn_KBT_8__TOiILTsEa3613260OOQeTSR/s1600/DSCF0557.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDTem4nUr1VAmYhVrlBBR12763cOfBukCKg6webSQr6Tzwd2W74_5EK3nar2T6aqX-L7ph8ELGVvuOFUxBUPuXNwYCjoQdfI9a9OJgtz6XJKlAn_KBT_8__TOiILTsEa3613260OOQeTSR/s1600/DSCF0557.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I served the bananas over pound cake with vanilla ice cream and some of the sauce on top:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1v0nUm2pgAuAbPUmW93KHtKn4KG3PwusjVrFqBcetstH6M_B_L_Nv1e5Ymnedo4lUSipO_rs8_asw6nrIyCo051sC7_NPVUqOF92PNmMClZBWkWCkqYVWmYrkW-5yfwO5hPWr_DQQTUlG/s1600/DSCF0558.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1v0nUm2pgAuAbPUmW93KHtKn4KG3PwusjVrFqBcetstH6M_B_L_Nv1e5Ymnedo4lUSipO_rs8_asw6nrIyCo051sC7_NPVUqOF92PNmMClZBWkWCkqYVWmYrkW-5yfwO5hPWr_DQQTUlG/s1600/DSCF0558.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This made so much (12 servings), that we invited the neighbors over to eat it with us. Everyone really liked it, even DH who doesn't like banana flavored things or coconut (I didn't give him too much coconut). The bananas weren't overdone, and the sauce was the right balance - salty, not too sweet. It was a really great treat!sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-65343443411330015842014-06-01T21:18:00.001-07:002014-06-01T21:18:40.791-07:00June 1: Chicken Fiesta SoupHere is the soup I made for dinner tonight. I started it after we got back from morning Church. I gathered up these ingredients:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYgJRnSHz8U17ibSikpun_BY2kM-CR6xyx-01TQgzJ-PX2zftY02JyhR7bnAWWnfupx5aju3x-Xl7f0WdwqVZyRiaVfxy0jVTKsAmY_kNtx2QA-pO2ajhQvxTzwgv6L9_nG0c0Pwr784QJ/s1600/DSCF0547.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYgJRnSHz8U17ibSikpun_BY2kM-CR6xyx-01TQgzJ-PX2zftY02JyhR7bnAWWnfupx5aju3x-Xl7f0WdwqVZyRiaVfxy0jVTKsAmY_kNtx2QA-pO2ajhQvxTzwgv6L9_nG0c0Pwr784QJ/s1600/DSCF0547.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
First I boiled a 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts and shredded them. <br />
I served it with crumbled tostada shells, cilantro, and shredded Cheddar cheese:<br />

<br />
This soup was fantastic! Absolutely delicious. There was nothing I would change about it (except that it was really hot, let it cool a few minutes before eating), and I will be adding this to my favorites list!sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-54716718634679050442014-06-01T20:55:00.000-07:002014-06-01T20:55:15.271-07:00May 31: Black Bean Chipotle SoupI made this recipe last night for dinner. It was Saturday, so I started it at about lunch time. I gathered up these ingredients:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtpPrI4rZSUrYXN3qXn4Ux86dkDHtHbWN2CaZ4gIwPpcDMd4G_6D4OGSgBWhBLhutezNdVSkxIHmU5omUp2-jXAWJQheTOxyWEkr9315-uAH8HWj4Y1ENJlJsbwcXFiT8LmKTauv9MkM6E/s1600/DSCF0530.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtpPrI4rZSUrYXN3qXn4Ux86dkDHtHbWN2CaZ4gIwPpcDMd4G_6D4OGSgBWhBLhutezNdVSkxIHmU5omUp2-jXAWJQheTOxyWEkr9315-uAH8HWj4Y1ENJlJsbwcXFiT8LmKTauv9MkM6E/s1600/DSCF0530.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I let a pound of beans soak overnight. Then I rinsed them and put them in the Crock Pot along with 2 diced stalks of celery, 2 diced carrots, and a diced onion:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimntkDIPu45hEk4W_tqWqvASZS6bWbiaAZAudJd0t6dEPhF-Np3Smf0qlUA7Uo3hhafQhSRSEhWtqHz-GmjJsImiEfFXUGRA_lbFIWJfklPgW1a3jqdyA2EA_4Yk2ZtnY35I_AIYm1SZXH/s1600/DSCF0531.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimntkDIPu45hEk4W_tqWqvASZS6bWbiaAZAudJd0t6dEPhF-Np3Smf0qlUA7Uo3hhafQhSRSEhWtqHz-GmjJsImiEfFXUGRA_lbFIWJfklPgW1a3jqdyA2EA_4Yk2ZtnY35I_AIYm1SZXH/s1600/DSCF0531.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In a bowl I combined 2 chopped chipotle peppers, a cup of crushed tomatoes, a can of mild green chilies, 2 tsp. of cumin, and some salt and pepper:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-0tNl9eeW9QiTlCG6bfnxkqoCFVDMPSOxWkz71a8DBIPNDDR8hK9ckXD_93ClaV-UbuRN1GIN9Vzvc8buvISZCi3km7dv39WiEQhYK1zjYOWOYzB1r8ZBdi2qIjUcQr-_bSBDQxZuCmfC/s1600/DSCF0532.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-0tNl9eeW9QiTlCG6bfnxkqoCFVDMPSOxWkz71a8DBIPNDDR8hK9ckXD_93ClaV-UbuRN1GIN9Vzvc8buvISZCi3km7dv39WiEQhYK1zjYOWOYzB1r8ZBdi2qIjUcQr-_bSBDQxZuCmfC/s1600/DSCF0532.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I added that to the Crock Pot along with 6 cups of vegetable stock, and I stirred it up well. That cooked on high for 6 hours:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This soup was good, but the beans were a little undercooked. I think next time I should start it early and cook it on low for 7 to 8 hours. It was also too spicy for the kids. They had a very hard time eating it. Other than that, the flavor was really good. DH liked it a lot.sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-41390664324232458542014-05-30T20:14:00.001-07:002014-05-30T20:14:53.360-07:00May 30: JambalayaHere are the ingredients for the Jambalaya I made for dinner. <br />
In the Crock Pot I put 28 oz stewed tomatoes, a pound of andouille sausage, 2 cups chopped boiled ham, 2 cups water, a cup of rice, 2 chopped onions, 2 chopped stalks of celery, 1/4 c. tomato paste, 2 tablespoons olive oil, a tbsp. of minced garlic, a tsp. of dried parsley, some hot sauce, 1/2 tsp. dried thyme, and 2 cloves:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIuVyqMsMfGoaNghRtWlDwK9q-0T1HNI7WM8YLPdiM-uZ7QIcFIKlJOII2Zt9s7QzW3TPVqZ2hUF7df-ZOxYxtKkDkB0CTNBVKMRfKtASGsC_yKZbozGK20BBrqpwlBCoaRxbpzru_SeGJ/s1600/DSCF0526.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIuVyqMsMfGoaNghRtWlDwK9q-0T1HNI7WM8YLPdiM-uZ7QIcFIKlJOII2Zt9s7QzW3TPVqZ2hUF7df-ZOxYxtKkDkB0CTNBVKMRfKtASGsC_yKZbozGK20BBrqpwlBCoaRxbpzru_SeGJ/s1600/DSCF0526.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I stirred it up:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgww2HWsERDfB1ART5BwkZEXOKmSN-UB1IjBgmxkicERQpCMl8dEbmq5dUjQLoaUyjdMVBThBskF_BXW5CWJQMMsvTJDiLw7uqkPbX8HjMbaT980eHlr1oXpaubsV3h1ym92CgOF2zseDYo/s1600/DSCF0527.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgww2HWsERDfB1ART5BwkZEXOKmSN-UB1IjBgmxkicERQpCMl8dEbmq5dUjQLoaUyjdMVBThBskF_BXW5CWJQMMsvTJDiLw7uqkPbX8HjMbaT980eHlr1oXpaubsV3h1ym92CgOF2zseDYo/s1600/DSCF0527.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And cooked it on low for about 8 hours. Then I added a pound of shrimp:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
And cooked it on high for about 30 more minutes:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This was a very good Jambalaya. The rice was a bit mushy, but it didn't detract from the taste. I was surprised that the canned ham tasted pretty good. I've never had it before, and I expected it to taste bad. The recipe also called for 1/2 green bell pepper, but I ran out. I don't think it mattered that much. DH liked this one. It made a lot, so we will be having it for lunch for several days I think!sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-69413679828579921702014-05-29T20:57:00.000-07:002014-05-29T20:57:17.796-07:00May 29: Asian Golden Barley with CashewsI made this for dinner tonight, but with the stuck on sauce from yesterday, and being busy all day, I had to make it on the stove instead of in the Crock Pot. I gathered up these ingredients at about 4:30.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxbkeknqrXXsvonMQAYcpzFh_bdewaLK3D_nlvPd62p08ca7c2CmCgdpbVEpAh1v_CH8gUL_pWl_5PgWa08428miif7UE4jT8TktlWt33uEKz-EiZ7x7vpLmNiabSqvodYEgaY0LX8S-pE/s1600/DSCF0516.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxbkeknqrXXsvonMQAYcpzFh_bdewaLK3D_nlvPd62p08ca7c2CmCgdpbVEpAh1v_CH8gUL_pWl_5PgWa08428miif7UE4jT8TktlWt33uEKz-EiZ7x7vpLmNiabSqvodYEgaY0LX8S-pE/s1600/DSCF0516.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In a nonstick skillet, my daughter stirred 2 tbsp. butter with a cup of barley for about 10 minutes (she did a very good job):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Then I added 3 cups of veg. stock, a chopped onion, a chopped green bell pepper, 2 chopped celery stalks, a minced clove of garlic, and 1/4 tsp. pepper.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I didn't plan tonight's dinner very well. We are trying to go low carb, and barley isn't that bad of a carb, but there was practically no protein in our dinner. This would have been great as a side dish, but I didn't get any meat to go with the barley! It was a little bland and somewhat slimy, but not horrible. We spruced it up with a little soy sauce. I ate some Greek yogurt for my protein, so it's all good.sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-60429780637351108732014-05-28T20:59:00.001-07:002014-05-28T20:59:52.040-07:00May 28: Scallops in Fresh Tomato and Herb SauceI made this for dinner tonight. I started it at around 11:00 this morning. I gathered up these ingredients:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizcByt7DNuw04vDfODV8HVUqXFoVABIlnLpyaNfmj1jRX53MTl22Sp9xlqbfi4A5N-kGDrieLeWSoyLo1tat8eg4tZmHkOqhtCRQTtqzO1v4Lr2GZUUs0HzaL0jj1zh5-kYyi5i9SWvyYe/s1600/DSCF0511.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizcByt7DNuw04vDfODV8HVUqXFoVABIlnLpyaNfmj1jRX53MTl22Sp9xlqbfi4A5N-kGDrieLeWSoyLo1tat8eg4tZmHkOqhtCRQTtqzO1v4Lr2GZUUs0HzaL0jj1zh5-kYyi5i9SWvyYe/s1600/DSCF0511.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I chopped some onions and garlic and sauteed them in a little oil:<br />

<br />
I transferred the onions to the Crock Pot and added a can of tomato puree, a can of tomato paste, 3 peeled tomatoes, 1/4 c. red wine, some parsley and oregano:<br />

This sauce had the potential to be good. It was really acidic, so it should have called for some sugar to balance it out. I think that would have made it much better. I got the big expensive scallops, so they were really good. Hubby said he would rather not have scallops in his spaghetti sauce. I'm not sure I'll make this one again.sarahstonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05023641691323664282noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6652082041438435957.post-61570376732843173742014-05-28T20:39:00.001-07:002014-05-28T20:39:40.505-07:00May 27: Pear CrunchYesterday I made this pear crunch and we ate it for an after school snack:<br />
